This was my first time in New York. I initially went for a residency—Activation Residency—to be specific. It was held in upstate New York. I can’t even begin to describe how magical and affirming it was to be around Black folks in a creative environment. Post-residency, I spent some time in the city catching up with friends I’d met in Berlin and new friends I’d made during our time in the hills. When I left NY I was dead broke, but somehow it was all worth it.
