Marrakech
March 2024

My spirit needed this trip. Short but heavy and sweet. Yas and I spent most of our days in the old town, weaving through motorbikes, politely declining stall holders, laughing at the ‘endearing’ names they called us, mentally working out the exchange rate between MAD and GBP and eating the most delicious meals you could think of.

First and foremost, thanks to Yas for doing the heavy lifting on this trip. They made it uber special and I’m happy I spent this time with a fellow curator. Another MAJOR thanks to Mohammed for treating us with such kindness everyday, filling in the gaps of our knowledge on Amazigh culture and also teaching us how to make a chicken tagine. Bruh! Life changing. Love to Meryem at Le 18 who showed us what an equitable art space should look and feel like and for giving recommendations on art spaces in the city.

I cried a fair amount on this trip. There was a lot to process about race, class, gender, colonialism etc. But we ate well. We thanked God. We saw plenty of art and the sun kissed us. Gratitude is a must!
